Founder & CEO, Jackpine · Ottawa, Canada
Recognize the window.
Meet the moment.
Liam Mooney helps leaders recognize a window of opportunity, make a clear choice and build a response that matters.
A strategist, designer and entrepreneur, Liam founded Jackpine in Ottawa in 2013. He works with founders and leadership teams when change creates room to move and the next decision matters.
Foresight, judgment and follow-through
From a changing landscape to a clear next move.
A shift in the market, a leadership transition or a new public conversation can create an opening. Liam helps teams understand what is changing, assess their options and decide where to act.
His work brings together strategic foresight, research, positioning and public communications. He stays close to the decision and its execution, from the first working session through to the story, partnerships and materials that put a plan into motion.
He works alongside his wife, Emma Cochrane, Jackpine’s creative director. Together, they connect strategy and design across client work and their own ventures, keeping the original ambition in view as the work takes shape.
Canada Is Not For Sale®
Recognizing a moment. Building something that lasts.
In 2025, a national conversation about Canadian sovereignty created a moment for a clear, shared expression. Liam and Emma’s Canada Is Not For Sale® venture brought that expression into everyday life through a hat, then a growing collection of Canadian-made apparel.
Emma led the design. Liam led strategy, partnerships and public communications. Together, they turned an idea into products, manufacturing relationships and a business operating in the public eye.
That experience gives Liam a founder’s perspective on what follows an opening: responding to demand, building the supply chain and making decisions under pressure. It is a perspective he brings to leaders working through moments of their own.
Liam and Emma are also the co-creators of Lake Ontario Hat, with Emma leading design and Liam leading strategy, partnerships and public communications.
Education and recognition
Liam holds a Master of Design in Strategic Foresight and Innovation from OCAD University and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Studies from Trent University. He taught digital entrepreneurship and strategy at Carleton University for nine years.
In 2025, he was named one of Ottawa’s Forty Under 40. That year, he and Emma jointly received the Newsmaker of the Year award at the Best Ottawa Business Awards.
Speaking and media
Liam is available for keynotes, executive briefings, leadership workshops and media interviews on strategic foresight, brand building, Canadian enterprise and the relationship between politics, culture and commerce.
His sessions help audiences read a changing environment and make a practical next move. Jackpine’s Window Workshop helps leadership teams turn emerging signals into a 90-day action plan.
